More Restaurants Are Closing In Central Florida

More restaurants are announcing that they’re selling chains or closing some stores. Last week Starbucks showed a list of its 13 stores that will be closing in Central Florida. Starbucks officials have said the nationwide housing slump hurt its business the most in Florida and in California.

Now Fazoli is also struggling with the state of the economy and has announced that it’s selling all nine of its Central Florida locations. As nationwide economic woes slam the Central Florida area, nine Fazoli stores will simply be sold off and closed.

Experts say that eating out is among the first luxuries to do during this hard times and across-the-board restaurant cuts can lessen people’s luxury expense. UCF Professor Chris Muller says Central Florida’s driving culture makes it even more vulnerable to the hit of rising gas prices. Muller believes local residents feel the prices even more intensely than areas where gas is more expensive due to the heavy reliance on car travel.
